Comments on "A Piece of Conversation God. Submitted by Dan."
I hope he's in school because that's an A+ essay waiting to be handed in.
After sending my last comment, I realized that I had more to say.
As an agnostic, ignostic, atheist, I still lean more toward the possibility of the "Big Bang" theory than divine creation.
My biggest question is why do you state that atheists believe that our universe (planets, suns, comets, water, oxygen) was created from nothing. Any person with college schooling in science i.e. physics, chem, or bio will agree that matter is not spontaneously generated, but that it comes from other matter. I've also read theory that suggests the universe is infinitely collapsing and expanding thus still holding true to the infinate nature concept with the matter moving inward and outward within the vaccuum of space.
Lastly, I do agree that the birth of the universe is quite ambiguous to theists and atheists alike, but I do not agree the the absense of proof of either theory defaults to the opposite.
I don't believe Dan implies the absence of evidence as proof for any one answer. Instead he implies that in this circumstance the conculsion of theists is no less probable than the conculsion of atheists. Either option requires an equal amount of faith. You must either have faith that there is a god and creator of all things, or a faith that matter could organize itself out of seeming nothingness. (Even the idea of an oscillating universe implies that at distinct points in time all matter has collapsed to the point of virtual nothingness.) The question is really . . .Which one are you willing to believe?
WOW! That is some major brain cramp type reading.....You are both deep thinkers and apparently very intelligent. I agree with what Deb said. It is very thought provoking and right on.
